Gingerbread Cookies

Grammy’s recipe

Combine:

2/3 cup crisco
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 1/2 tsp salt

Beat in:
1 unbeaten egg

Blend in:
3/4 cup molasses

Sift:
3 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda

Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients. Mix well.
Dough is going to be very stiff.

Chill dough for 2 hours (easiest to divide into 4 small even balls and wrap in plastic individually).

Roll out 1/4 of dough at a time, keeping the rest chilled.
Roll to 1/8 inch thick. Cut out desired shapes.
Grease baking sheets.
Sprinkle cookies with sugar.

Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes (or longer) until edges look darker.
